Why Research Matters introduces the people behind the questions, discoveries, and decisions that shape society.
A short visual introduction to the show.
Research shapes the world around us. This show asks the people doing the work why it matters to all of us.
Why this show
Research starts with a question. Its impact begins with what we do next.
What are we trying to understand—and why does the question matter?
How do researchers build trustworthy knowledge from evidence and uncertainty?
How does what we learn shape society and the choices we make?
Each conversation follows a different field, but the question is always the same: why should the rest of us care?
No forced connections. Just thoughtful conversations about how knowledge is made, understood, and felt in the world around us.

About the host
I’m Dr. Varunika Goyal, a neuroscientist, entrepreneur, and the founder of BioScopeIQ. For 15 years, I’ve worked as an academic researcher and principal investigator, asking questions and following evidence wherever it leads.
I started Why Research Matters because I want more people to understand what researchers and scientists do, why their work matters, and how research shapes society and affects the lives we lead.
The podcast brings the work of research into the mainstream through thoughtful conversations about the questions, discoveries, and people behind it, and the difference that knowledge can make in all our lives.
